Michael Houtz is an art director, editorial designer, and illustrator based in New York City. He is currently a freelance art director for The New York Times Opinion desk, and has previously worked for Esquire Magazine and The New York Times Magazine.
In addition to publishing, he’s worked for branding agencies like Pentagram, The Heads of State, and Standard Black creating identities, websites, and campaigns for a broad range of clients that have included Adidas Y-3, DC Comics, Netflix, Nike, and Warner Brothers.
His illustrations have been featured in The Atlantic, Esquire, The Economist, Fortune, The New York Times, Politico, and Vanity Fair. He’s currently available for commission.
