Michael Houtz (howts) is a Brooklyn-based editorial designer and art director, currently working on The New York Times Opinion desk. He’s previously worked for publications like Esquire and The New York Times Magazine.
Adept in crafting visual identity systems and experiences, he’s also worked with branding agencies like Pentagram, The Heads of State, and Standard Black for a broad range of clients that have included Adidas Y-3, DC Comics, Netflix, Nike, Temple University, and Warner Brothers to name a few.
His conceptual photo-illustrations have graced the pages of The Atlantic, Esquire, The Economist, Fortune, The New York Times, Politico, and Vanity Fair. He’s available for select commissions.
